(KNSI) – The Clearwater Travel Plaza’s Walk For Hope delivered better-than-expected results, providing a little extra cheer for the Coborn Cancer Center.

CentraCare posted on Facebook a photo of officials being presented with a check for $14,029. Organizer Staci Stredelman said in September that they do two events per year. Between the walk and a summer golf outing, she aims for a combined $30,000. They were only about $10,000 short of that mark heading into the event.

CentraCare wrote on Facebook Monday that the gift was amazing. It says it is grateful to everyone who participated in the early October event at Warner Lake County Park. This was the 15th annual walk.

Stredelman says they try to have fun, even when dealing with a serious subject. “We have volunteers that are throughout the trail, and then we have a silent auction that’s also available. There’s hot chocolate, coffee – We do some of our doughnuts here from the bakery, our Nelson Brothers Bakery, and we just have some music and get everyone having a fun day.”
