(KNSI) – This afternoon marks the halfway point for the Highway 10/23 interchange reconstruction project.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says all four lanes are open again on both roads. Crews still plan to do some work off-road until the ground freezes, but it will be throttled back significantly until next spring.
Officials say the biggest change that will remain in place over the winter is the access ramp closures between the two highways. Suggested detours include Lincoln Avenue Southeast to 15th Avenue in St. Cloud or Mayhew Lake Road Northeast to Golden Spike Road in Sauk Rapids.
Drivers are reminded that only eastbound Highway 10 and westbound Highway 23 have been finished at this time. For motorists going in the opposite direction, they caution that the ride will be rough. That should be especially true once the freeze/thaw cycle kicks in next spring.
Another winter closure is at the corner of Fourth Street and Frontage Road near Cash Wise. A bridge over Highway 10 is set to be built at that location.
