(KNSI) – The days following Halloween are primetime for dentists. That’s because sticky candies could pull fillings, and hard candies could chip a tooth.

Dr. Maria Cervantes says any type of dental mishap should get checked out.

“You don’t have to go to the emergency room right away, but consider calling your denist the next day, especially if you haven’t done so in the last six months.”

Dr. Cervantes says that teeth are supposed to be strong, so if one gets chipped by candy, it could be a sign of underlying problems. “If it’s a permanent tooth, you might want to have someone take a closer look to see if it’s something that needs to be replaced.”

If left unchecked, she says it could mean even bigger – and costly issues.
