(KNSI) – St. Cloud Technical & Community College has been honored for teaching the next generation of cybersecurity crimestoppers.
SCTCC was recognized as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense at the 2023 National Cyber Education Colloquium. To get the recognition means SCTCC met the strict standards and requirements of the National Security Agency. The NSA awards institutions that commit to producing cybersecurity professionals.
According to Forbes, in 2021, cybercrime cost U.S. businesses more than $6.9 billion, and the Federal Communications Commission says cybersecurity is one of the most serious economic and national security challenges. Techopedia said last year, there were more than 493 million ransomware attacks detected worldwide, and roughly 3.4 billion spam emails are sent each day, with phishing attacks remaining the most common types of cybercrime. The average cost for a data breach is in the neighborhood of $4.35 million.
SCTCC started offering the major in the fall of 2019. The 60-credit degree teaches cybersecurity skills to provide graduates with the knowledge to become security specialists.
