(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University is saluting one of its most famous graduates after four decades in the broadcast booth.

Dick Bremer, longtime Minnesota Twins announcer, is also a Husky, class of 1978. On Tuesday, the club announced that Bremer would transition to a special assistant role in the front office. He will continue to be an ambassador for the franchise. Many would say after a 40-year television career, he was already serving in that capacity.

Bremer is beloved as a Minnesota kid who reached the pinnacle of the state’s sports media opportunities. The Staples High School and St. Cloud State University graduate started his career as the voice of Hawkeye basketball in Iowa.

He was picked up by the Twins from 1983 to 1985 and then from 1987 to this season. The franchise won two World Series with Bremer behind the microphone. He also called the Minnesota North Stars, preseason NFL football, Golden Gopher football, and Minnesota State High School League championship tournaments.

Bremer is in the Minnesota Museum of Broadcasting Hall of Fame and has won the Silver Circle Emmy for Broadcast Excellence.

The team says it has not decided who the television crew will be next season.
