(KNSI) – Ice anglers will keep fewer Walleye this winter on Upper Red Lake while the number of fish harvested on Mille Lacs Lake stays the same.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says starting Wednesday, November 1st, the limit on Upper Red is going from five to four. Only one can be longer than 17 inches.
Beginning December 1st, those fishing on Mille Lacs Lake can keep one between 21 and 23 inches or a lunker longer than 28 inches.
The DNR sets winter regulations for the lakes after completing its fall survey. Results show Upper Red had an ideal level of spawning walleyes last year. Mille Lacs’ results found slightly lower numbers compared to 2022.
