(KNSI) – A veteran battling cancer has a new roof to protect his family, thanks to Oberg Roofing and Remodeling in St. Cloud.

Mary and Steve Lindberg live in Elk River and were the winners of the Oberg Military Vet Roof Rescue program. Steve served in the Air Force for 33 years and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer six years ago. “Well, it has its ups and downs. But, you know, the good Lord is taking care of me and taking care of my family. We just go through it one day at a time.”

Their home sustained hail damage that isn’t being covered by insurance. Steve feels blessed to be chosen for a new roof because it will allow him to keep shelter over himself and his wife. “Our home is our home. It’s a place that we can have as a safe haven. It’s wonderful.”

Oberg Roofing put the new shingles on last week and then decided to help even more by doing Mary and Steve’s yard work.

Their assistant pastor nominated the couple. Every year, the company takes the names of people in need of a new roof for a family in need and a veteran.
