Section 7AAAAA

Elk River 38, Sauk Rapids-Rice 35: The Storm outgained the Elks 476 yards to 341 but trailed for nearly the entire game. SRR quarterback Spencer Ackerman finished 13-20 for 246 yards and two scores. He found running back Shaun Walrath from 18 yards out to put the team up 7-0. Elk River got the next two to lead 16-7. About halfway through the second, it was 30-13 Elk River. The Storm comeback fizzled out in the fourth as they scored only once to make it 38-35. Walrath was a force on the ground as well for the Storm. He averaged over 10 yards per attempt, totaling 237 rushing yards. He had four combined touchdowns.

Section 8AAAA

ROCORI 30, Detroit Lakes 28: The Spartans dominated thanks to nearly 200 rushing yards from quarterback Will Steil. ROCORI turned the ball over three times inside the Detroit Lakes 25-yard line in the first half, or it could have been put away early. The Lakers also had a kickoff returned for a touchdown that helped them keep it close. ROCORI advances to play top-ranked Becker. The Bulldogs shut them out in the regular season.

Annandale 48, St. Cloud Cathedral 8
Foley 49, Mora 14

(1) Annandale plays (2) Foley at St. Cloud Tech High School on the KNSI Sports Network Friday night. It will air on a separate station to avoid conflict with St. Cloud State men’s hockey.

Section 5AA

Holdingford 34, Kimball 26: Quarterback Drew Lange was hyper-efficient, hitting on 12 of 14 passes for 180 yards and two scores. Both of the touchdowns through the air went to running back Luke Bieniek. They were his only two catches of the game for 68 yards in total. Lange also rushed 21 times for 84 yards and a touchdown. Bieniek added 54 yards on the ground.

(1) EV-W faces (3) Holdingford at St. John’s University on Friday night.

Volleyball

Section 8AAAA Quarterfinals

Sartell 3, Sauk Rapids-Rice 0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-20): The Sabres roar into the postseason with a straight-set victory against their rivals. Abby Haus had 15 kills to lead the team, many coming from right-side attacks. Her biggest influence on the match might have been in the first game when she went on a long service run, picking up several aces to help Sartell breeze to an early lead. She finished with four in the game. Brenna McClure added ten kills. The Sabres will host a semifinal match on Tuesday night after (7) Bemidji upset (2) St. Michael Albertville Saturday afternoon.
