(KNSI) – Minnesota drivers will need to move over for all vehicles after a change in the state’s Ted Foss Law.
The Legislature expanded the statute to include any automobile on the side of the road with its hazard lights activated. Before the change, drivers only had to move over one lane from ambulances, construction equipment, fire trucks, police cars, and tow trucks with flashing lights on.
On roads where drivers can’t move over a lane, they must slow down significantly as they pass. Failure to move over or slow down could result in a $100 fine.
The law was enacted in honor of state trooper Ted Foss, who was killed in the year 2000 during a traffic stop on the shoulder of Interstate 90 near Winona.
