(KNSI) – Last year was snowy, with the white stuff sticking around well into April. The Old Farmers’ Almanac says to expect a repeat.

Senior Editor Sarah Perreault lays out all the details. “The entire month of December is forecast to be colder than normal. And then you’ll have other cold periods in late November and early and late January. Your precipitation and snowfall are forecast to be above normal. In particular, watch for mid to late December, mid-January and early February.”

More flakes mean more clean up. Perreault says to have your snow blower ready to go. “I definitely would do that. It’s going to be a winter wonderland this year. Every year, we’ve got the forecast map in full color, but there’s really no reason for it this year because most of it is white.”

Perreault says the almanac has been predicting the weather for 232 years, teaming with meteorologists to identify cyclical patterns. The group also looks at softer signs like astronomy, including planet position and sunspot activity. The exact formula is a closely-kept secret.

The National Weather Service has come to the opposite conclusion. It predicts a warm and potentially dry season.
