(KNSI) – The numbers are in, and this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s in St. Cloud on September 23rd raised more than $103,000.
Walk manager Jenny Theis said they are so grateful to each of our walkers, volunteers and generous community sponsors. “This event is incredible as it brings people impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementia together so they do not have to face this disease alone.”
The family and loved ones of Jack Simmonds, who call themselves Jack’s Angels, were the top fundraising team. They hauled in more than $10,000. Simmonds passed away in February after a 12-year battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Jack and his family have participated in the walks since the year after his diagnosis and have raised over $41,000.
“Our number one reason is to show that we loved and supported my husband,” says Jack’s wife, TinaMarie. “Right behind that, we believe in family and memories, and finding a prevention, treatment, and cure for this disease that robs families.”
Fundraising was a bit short of the event’s $140,000 goal, so donations of any amount continue to be accepted for the St. Cloud Walk to End Alzheimer’s until December 31st, 2023. The Association relies on these funds to provide critical support for families in the community and advance research. Donate by clicking here.
The money will be used for classes and support groups for local families and to advance the research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association.
