(KNSI) – You have one last chance to catch this year’s fall color change.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says western Stearns County is at peak right now. The Mississippi and St. Croix River corridors are getting close, about three-quarters of the way there. That includes southeastern Stearns County, southern Benton County, and all of Sherburne and Wright Counties.
Unfortunately, that means there will be little left hanging from the branches in one week. If you head in the other direction, the DNR says the window is already closing by the time you reach the Morrison County line.
The DNR recommends a twilight hike in its latest Fall Color Finder update. It says there is something magical about the effect created by a deepening blue sky early in the evening as a backdrop for the leaves. Lake Maria State Park and the Lake Wobegon Trail are good local options.
