(KNSI) — An investigation is underway after a timberwolf and several ducks were killed and their carcasses dumped in central Minnesota.

According to the DNR, more than a dozen dead ducks were found strewn along a road for a stretch of about 30 miles near Little Falls. Some of the ducks were intact, while others were found partially cleaned. The wolf was found shot to death near Buckman. It is against state law to hunt or trap wolves for sport. Doing so can lead to jail time and a $25,000 fine.

The agency didn’t say if the two incidents are related.

The DNR’s Facebook page says behavior like this is illegal, unethical and “gives all hunters a bad name.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Turn in Poachers hotline at 1-800-652-9093, or dial #TIP on a mobile phone or via the MNTip app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
