(KNSI) – The BC Gravy Train is ready to pull into the mullet championship station.

That’s the nickname for the flow sitting on top of the head, and down past the shoulders, of Coon Rapids native Brian Carruthers. He has advanced to this week’s “Mane Event.”

Carruthers said he first briefly flirted with the Kentucky Waterfall about a decade ago in honor of his favorite Vikings player, Jared Allen. He came back to the idea in 2019 and officially made the transition from a short cut to Allen’s signature look in 2020. He says it is a great way to showcase his personality, and he has even won over his wife.

“My wife, when I proposed to her, I had a mullet, and she told me that I was going to have to cut it for the wedding. Then it was a few weeks before the wedding, she goes, ‘You don’t have to cut it.’ So, now I joke with her about that I’m going to cut it off, and she says, ‘Absolutely not!'”

Carruthers has a natural curl to his, no perm needed, but he says the straight look is a solid choice, too. Carruthers has good news for those who want to follow in his footsteps and keep the party going in the back.

“I’ve had some friends that have had mullets, too, and I honestly think that anyone can, but I think your mullet chooses you. Because I got friends that have had mullets with straight hair, and it fits them. I’ve actually straightened my hair, and it doesn’t work.”

Carruthers says for the follicly challenged, never let the dream die. He says the skullet is a viable option.

There are two ways to help support Brian in his quest for a crown befitting his luscious curly locks. You can vote for him online this week or donate to Jared Allen’s Homes For Wounded Warriors.
