(KNSI) — If they haven’t blown away, don’t forget to haul in the plants Friday night, as the National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory starting at midnight.
The advisory is for the southwestern quarter of the state and includes Stearns County. Temps will drop to mid-30s, causing frost to form. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, temps that low could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if it’s not brought inside or covered up. The advisory is in effect until 9:00 Saturday, October 7th.
The Almanac says the first frost is usually about the end of September, and it’s not unusual to see overnight lows around the freezing point starting around now.
A slim line of counties on the South Dakota border is under a freeze warning. A freeze watch blankets the northwestern quarter of the state from Grant County up to the Canadian border.
