(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Area School District 742 Board of Education received a presentation on its Central Minnesota Virtual Academy at a work session Wednesday night.
In its first year of operation, the report showed 43 students took full-time online classes, while another 169 are taking at least one online course. Most users are students from Apollo or Tech High School. Another 38 kids are middle school age.
The online program is based on a blended self-paced learning model with a week’s worth of assignments posted at once. Kids then have a week to get the work done. The program uses various tools to teach students, including instructional videos, chatrooms and other online collaborations.
The school offers 50 online courses, including math, science, language arts, social studies, health and music.
The district says this first year is just the tip of the iceberg, and they expect the program to explode in the future.
