(KNSI) – As winter’s chill begins to settle in, the St. Cloud Regional Airport is providing a warm escape for travelers as Allegiant Airlines resumes its seasonal flights to sunnier locales.

Allegiant Airlines’ seasonal flights kicked off on Wednesday for Mesa, Arizona and will continue twice a week until May 13th. Airport Director Bill Towle told KNSI News as Jack Frost tightens his grip on the weather, there will be more flights to Mesa. “Getting into February, we know that time of the year is when folks really want to get out of town. And it’s getting close to the spring break time. They increase that to four times per week. So, it’s going to be Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday through March.”

Allegiant will also restart flights to the tropical destination of Punta Gorda, Florida, on December 20th, offering flights about twice a week until April 14th.

Towle says ridership is growing at the airport, and he recommendeds getting your tickets early because most flights sell out. “Our load factor over the last several years have been, 93% to 94%. That means the airplanes are 93% to 94% full. In the industry, that’s almost as good as you get. Certainly, a lot of these flights are 100% full. So, be careful and make sure you try to buy your ticket in advance.”

Towle also highlighted the convenience of using the St. Cloud airport. “It’s not a really big building, which is great. It’s easy to navigate. You come in and you go right to the reservation counter. If you don’t need to go to the reservation counter, you’ve got your boarding pass on your phone, even better, go through TSA, wait for the airplane, and then board. So, it’s really an easy terminal to navigate.”

There is a cost of $9.00 a day to park at the airport. To book your flight, click here.
