(KNSI) – A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday to second degree assault with a dangerous weapon for a May shots fired incident in south St. Cloud.
The criminal complaint says Nathan Leo Adams shot at his friend on May 23rd after showing up at his friend’s house on the 1100 block of 16th Avenue South unannounced. Prosecutors say he targeted a 16-year-old who lives in the home. He fired three times but did not hit anyone.
Adams was subjected to a Rule 20 evaluation to test his mental capacity and competency, but the results showed that he was fit to stand trial. Before getting to that stage, Adams made a plea deal.
He has been ordered to undergo a treatment program. He told investigators he had been using drugs shortly before the incident, going two days without sleep. The combination of marijuana and insomnia allegedly led to hallucinations.
If Adams leaves treatment against doctor’s advice, bail would be hiked to $100,000.
He will be sentenced on December 13th
