(KNSI) – Get a taste of life on the beat during the Waite Park Police Department’s second annual virtual ride-along Friday night.

Community outreach specialist Alicia Mages told KNSI News the ride-along shows the unpredictable nature of police work. “Maybe there’ll be something going on. Maybe there won’t be a whole heck of a lot going on. We don’t know, we’ll find out. But they can kind of get a glimpse of what goes on a typical night at the police department.”

She won’t be posting videos of what’s happening but will pass along general information about what is happening. “It’s going to be basic information, not private information about anyone. I might say on Seventh Avenue North or something like that, but not exact locations where we are. Unless it’s a traffic stop or something like that.”

She says the department got good feedback about last year’s virtual ride-along and decided to bring it back. Mages will be on patrol October 6th, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Residents will get an up-to-the-minute account of what an officer is doing on duty. The updates will be on X and Facebook.

The event is part of Faith and Blue Weekend.
