(KNSI) –

The St. Cloud VA Health Care System will have an interim director beginning next week.

Cheryl Thieschafer is stepping into the role vacated by the retiring Brett Thelen. She officially takes over on Sunday, October 1st. Thieschafer has been with the St. Cloud VA for over a decade, most recently as associate director. She handles financial and administrative operations and has also served as an analyst to the system director in the past.

Before becoming part of the VA, Thieschafer was in the U.S. Army for 13 years. She reached the rank of major. She transitioned from active duty and graduated in 2012 from the VA Health Care Leadership Program.

The St. Cloud VA is part of the VA Midwest Health Care Network, which oversees Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and portions of Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Its executive director, Robert McDivitt, says Thieschafer is “an outstanding choice to fill this role while we conduct our search for the new director for the St. Cloud VA Health Care System.”

No timeline for hiring a permanent director has been given.
