(KNSI) – A student enrolled at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota Southside location is part of this year’s Young Women’s Leadership Program.

It is organized by U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer’s office and is designed to help connect high schoolers with successful women in business, government, media, and other professions in the area. Brook’Lynn H. wanted to apply to help her with her dream of studying law and becoming a criminal defense attorney.

In a press release, Brook’Lynn says they also heard from women in law enforcement and finance. She mentions how important it is to interact with women who have found success in the workplace. “Because criminal law is such a male-dominated field, it [the program] inspired me to enter it. Women have empowerment, and we can do anything we put our minds to!”

Emmer says there are a lot of local examples in the area for girls to use as role models. He wants the next generation to hear their stories. “Our community is lucky to have so many distinguished women leaders, and their advice can be invaluable to young people as they consider their opportunities for after high school graduation.

The event is divided into three round table discussions in the summer. Brook’Lynn discovered the program through CareerSTART at the Boys and Girls Club. She had to go through an application process to be considered for the program.
