(KNSI) – An event to help fight cancer is taking place this weekend in Sartell.

Relay for Life of Central Minnesota is holding its walk and craft sale from 3:00 to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Sartell Community Center. This year’s theme is ‘every step counts.’ The family event will feature kids’ games and food vendors.

The opening ceremony is at 4:00 p.m., and the walkers will round Lake Francis around 4:30 p.m. The evening ends with the lighting of the luminarias to honor every life touched by cancer. The decorated bags carry the names of people who died from, are battling, or who’ve overcome cancer.

Money raised will fund cancer research, free rides to chemotherapy, and hotel stays near hospitals. So far, the Sartell event has raised more than $100,000.
