(KNSI) – The Clearwater Travel Plaza is holding its fifteenth annual Walk for Hope event in its customary slot on the first Saturday of October.
From 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on the seventh, participants will fan out over two trails through Warner Lake County Park. Organizer Staci Stredelman says costumes are encouraged, and the day is about fun, even though they are tackling a serious subject.
“We have volunteers that are throughout the trail, and then we have a silent auction that’s also available. There’s hot chocolate, coffee — We do some of our doughnuts here from the bakery, our Nelson Brothers Bakery, and we just have some music and get everyone having a fun day.”
A donation is required to participate, but Stredelman says there is no minimum amount in the policy. The more you raise, the more chances you have to win a prize.
Stredelman says, “So, if you get the $500 in sponsorship and donate that as an individual, you would be registered into get $250 gift card. That’s a Visa gift card, so that could be used anywhere.”
Teams are judged on the number of members, overall money raised, creative costumes, and animal outfits.
The Clearwater Travel Plaza does two events annually to benefit the Coborn Cancer Center. Between a Walk for Hope and the golf outing, they typically raise $30,000 per year.
