(KNSI) – A single-vehicle crash in Stearns County leads to a 2007 Jeep Wrangler catching fire, but no deaths.

A 63-year-old man was driving on County Road 9 in Avon Township when he fell asleep just before noon Monday. The Wrangler went off the pavement at a curve near 363rd Street and hit a tree.

The driver was able to crawl from the vehicle before it went up in flames. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched. By the time deputies and neighboring fire departments got there, the Wrangler was fully engulfed.

The man was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at St. Cloud Hospital. Helping out at the scene were the Avon and Albany Fire Departments and Mayo Ambulance.
