ROCORI 13, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 0: A 61-yard double pass that saw receiver Grant Tylutki throwing downfield to a wide-open Matthias Nierenhausen broke the ice. After that, it was a workmanlike effort from the Spartans. Will Steil found pay dirt thanks to a quarterback sneak into the endzone late in the first half to give ROCORI its final margin. Three Spartan red zone trips ended with no points. The ROCORI defense held a dynamic Benilde-St. Margaret’s air attack to under 100 yards passing, and Andy Soldner of the Spartans had two interceptions.
Sauk Rapids-Rice 27, Monticello 20: The Storm pick up another close victory to get to 3-0. It didn’t look like that would be the case at halftime, though, when SR-R led 27-0. They held off the tricks of the Magic late to get the win. Running back Shaun Walrath scored for the storm twice, from 74 yards out in the first quarter and a more garden variety one-yard effort in the second.
