(KNSI) – A new police cruiser in Sartell is hitting the streets to raise awareness about veterans and first responder suicide and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Police Chief Brandon Silgjord talked with KNSI News immediately after the dedication ceremony on Friday afternoon. “We wanted them to know that we appreciate their service. That they have a home here. And tell everyone that we’re a veteran-friendly employer. And that we’re here for the members of our community who may be deployed and their families.”
The new squad car was a surprise to the three officers with past military service, including Taylor Bartlett. “It was a complete shock. It looks amazing. It’s better than anything I could have imagined. It’s the coolest squad car on the street, for sure.”
He is one of the policemen who will be driving the cruiser. Bartlett explained to KNSI News what it means to him. “I think it’s amazing to have a constant reminder and representation of our support for veterans. As a veteran, it means a lot to be able to drive something every day that shows part of who I am. And allows me to keep remembering that. It allows people in our community to see that we’re right there with them.”
The cruiser has the word ‘no one fights alone’ on the side to let soldiers and first responders know the community is there for them and there are resources available to help.
The car will be on the streets starting this weekend to help raise awareness.
The police department picked this week to unveil the car because it is the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, and September is suicide prevention month.
