(KNSI) – Two St. John’s Prep seniors are semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. That distinction is handed out to only 16,000 students nationwide. There are over three million seniors in the U.S. and more than 15 million high school students.
The school says Evan Danielson is a captain of the soccer team and plays basketball and runs track, as well. He is thinking of going to college for engineering or computer science.
Patrick Duffy is the student council president and plays in the band and orchestra. He is looking to pursue a degree in economics or mathematics.
They qualified for the recognition by scoring highly on the PSAT. To become finalists, the two must submit application packets that include their school and community activities, how they demonstrate leadership, and what other honors and awards they received.
National Merit Scholarship finalists get a piece of over $33 million in financial assistance. The winners will be announced in February.
