(KNSI) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources released its latest Fall Color Finder on Thursday.
It shows areas around the Iron Range and northwestern Minnesota in Kittson, Marshall, Pennington, Red Lake and Roseau Counties are between 25% to 50% of peak color. The rest of the roughly northern two-thirds of Minnesota, which includes Benton, Morrison, and part of Stearns County plus the Lake Mille Lacs area, the North Shore, and Otter Tail County lakes area, are at 10% to 25% of peak. Other pockets of color include Frontenac State Park on the Goodhue/Wabasha County line in southeastern Minnesota and Redwood County along the Minnesota River.
Typical peak color in the state’s northern third is between now and early October. The midsection, including St. Cloud, sees peak color around late September to early October. The southern third peaks between late September to mid October.
