(KNSI) – The Central Minnesota Builders Association Fall Tour of Homes showcases the latest trends in design and materials.

Locations taking part will be open for two weekends across the region from the 15th to the 17th and the 22nd to the 24th. Executive Director Wanda Schroeder says you should take your time and get a sense of what you like. The tour could turn into inspiration for your own home.

Schroeder says, “A lot of the builders have them decorated to the hilt. So they look nice, they give you great ideas, and, I mean, you’re walking into homes, and you’re looking from the flooring to the cabinets to the wall colors and all of the intricate details that go into each home, and it’s fun to really see what’s out there.”

The tours run from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday and noon to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday each weekend. A stop in St. Joseph had to be pulled recently, and one of the remaining sites is open only on the first weekend. Schroeder explains why, and she gives tourgoers tips on staying up to date.

“Homes sell like hotcakes when they’re out on the market, and we’ve actually had a few of the tour homes sell. One has sold and will be closed for both weekends. Unfortunately for us, but fortunately for the builder and the new homeowners, and then there is another home that will be closed the second weekend. So, always download CMBA Tour app to your mobile device.”

You can find the app in the Google Play and Apple App stores.

Rising interest rates have led to an historically low inventory of existing homes. Buyers are turning to builders to fill the gap. Unlike larger markets, most only begin construction locally with a contract in hand. That means they are only on the market for a short time, if at all.
