Sartell To Discuss 2024 Preliminary Budget at Monday’s Meeting

(KNSI) – Sartell City Council will discuss the preliminary 2024 budget at Monday’s meeting.

The total levy is predicted to be roughly $10.1 million, a 9.6% annual increase. The overall rate will not change for the year, meaning homeowners will only pay more in taxes if the value of their property has risen. The general fund, which covers traditional operating expenses, is rising due to inflation, hiring a parks worker and part-time accounting specialist, as well as multiple police officers, and the cost of holding three elections compared to none this year.

As part of the consent agenda, the council will approve changes in the deputy chief and lieutenant job descriptions. The roles will be kept non-union, and in return, overall compensation will be increased by over $3,000 per job. The moves are outside of new hiring expected for the department.

The group will also get an update on the cost of chlorine feed conversion improvements at the wastewater treatment plant. The newest estimate shows the work at about $245,000, below the $255,000 budgeted for the project. The council will consider approving soliciting bids from contractors.
