On Sunday afternoon, dozens of people turned out for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the revamped Lions Park. Patrick and April Mastey’s son is in a wheelchair, and they spoke with KNSI News at the event. “We are very proud to be here today and see how the community has put their arms together. As parents of a child with extra needs and a couple of other boys, it’s really neat to see the communities all come together.”
The Sartell, LeSauk, and St. Stephen Lions Clubs worked together to raise $400,000 for the park. Mastey says he hopes the project is duplicated in other parts of the state. “It’s a great example, not only for the neighboring communities, but even the state of Minnesota and the Upper Midwest to kind of emulate and copy the good hearts and the needs that they tried to fulfill. So everyone can play, and everybody can be part of a child’s life.”
The 6,000-square-foot playground features a rubberized surface, ramps, decks, interactive musical panels, a merry-go-round, a double zip line, paved trails and more.
