(KNSI) – Governor Tim Walz has ordered flags at half-staff at all state buildings Monday to mark the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Homeowners and private businesses are encouraged to do the same. Walz says all Minnesotans should take a moment at 7:46 a.m. to observe a moment of silence. It coincides with when the first plane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.

A second plane would eventually hit the other tower. Yet another commercial jet was steered into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and passengers crashed one into a Pennsylvania field to keep it from hitting its intended target, believed to be the United States Capitol.

Walz says, “On the 22nd anniversary, we lower our flags in honor of the Americans who were lost, who were injured, and who saved lives on that tragic day. We recognize the incredible heroism of our nation’s first responders, and we reflect on the unwavering spirit of the American people.”
