(KNSI) – Two minibike riders were killed after they crashed into each other in rural Sherburne County.
The sheriff’s office says 28-year-old Jake Christen of Foley and 30-year-old Derek Christen of Milaca were part of a group of four riding along County Road 3 when they sped up and separated from the pack. The other riders saw them collide around 11:10 on Saturday night near Santiago Township.
Investigators believe that the first minibike tried to turn around to return to the group and collided head-on with the second minibike.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are awaiting toxicology results to determine whether alcohol contributed to the crash.
