Work on Beaver Island Trail Expansion Between St. Cloud, Clearwater Starts Tuesday

(KNSI) – Part of the Beaver Island Trail between St. Cloud and Clearwater will be closed next week.

Starting September 5th, Stearns County will start construction around a four-mile stretch of abandoned railroad right-of-way along County Road 75. Crews will turn it into a ten-foot-wide paved recreational trail by connecting the county’s portion of the trail and the City of St. Cloud’s section near Opportunity Drive to the existing trail in Clearwater.

The Federal Transportation Alternatives Program, Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission, and Stearns County CIP Funds provided the money for the $2.1 million project.
