(KNSI) — The hot, dry, and breezy weather that will settle over central Minnesota is leading to elevated fire weather conditions.
Forecasters say the temps will be around 90 on Friday with relative humidity at 30% to 40%. Wind gusts are also expected to be between 15 and 25 miles an hour. Any fire has the potential to quickly spread.
The conditions will continue through the Labor Day weekend and beyond. Overnight lows will only be in the 70s. The area has the potential to meet or beat daily high record temperatures on Sunday and Monday.
According to weather records from St. Cloud State University, the high temp for September 1st is 92 degrees, tied three times since being set in 1913. Saturday’s record high is 94, which has also been tied three times since 1898. The forecast high for Saturday is 94. Sunday’s record is 96, which could be broken as the forecast high is 98. The high for Labor Day is also 98, which would tie the record set in 1922.
