(KNSI) – Meteorological fall starts Friday, and experts say the start of the season will feel more like summer.
The months of September, October and November make up meteorological fall.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Jake Beitlich says that you won’t be able to escape the heat over the next few days. “We’re looking at high temperatures on Friday in the upper 80s to lower 90s. And then as you go into Saturday and Sunday, we’re going to see more widespread 90s with a few sites making a run at 100 degrees.”
The climate prediction center shows inconclusive results for the 30/60/90-day temperature outlook. Which means we have equal chances of seeing above or below-normal temperatures.
Beitlich says he’s confident the heat will stick around for a little while. “One thing I can say is over the next two weeks, we are going to be above normal. So, as far as that time period goes, we’re definitely going to get a jumpstart on above normal temperatures.”
Some might wonder if hot, dry weather and months of drought will impact the fall foliage. Beitlich says the leaves will change but might look a little different. “We’re going to see the colors. The yellows, the oranges, the reds, those should be more pronounced than normal. But as far as the bright, vibrant colors, they’re just going to be a little bit more dull due to the heat.”
The official first day of Autumn is September 23rd.
