(KNSI) – One of the Minnesota State Fair’s busiest attractions will be grounded for the rest of this year’s event.

The Space Tower is closed until special electronic equipment can be replaced, which won’t be until the fair has closed in 2023. The trouble started on Sunday. It was operating as usual when the platform reversed course and spun in the opposite direction. Workers were able to bring the observation deck back to the ground manually. Crews spent three days trying to make emergency repairs but could not get the ride going again.

The staple of the Great Minnesota Get-Together was first opened in 1965. It slowly rotates with people inside after traveling as high as 300 feet in the air, providing an unparalleled view of the grounds and the greater Twin Cities area.

It is located near Snelling Avenue and the Agriculture Horticulture Building.
