(KNSI) – East St. Cloud businesses have reason to celebrate, finally.

The complete closure of Highway 10 was lifted Wednesday, just after 12:00 p.m., and Project Manager Rob Abfalter says all of the intersections that have been shut down will be open again within the week.

“We should have the last half of St. Germain open by Friday night after 5:00 p.m. Division Street East, that north half, that one is also slated to be open Friday afternoon. The north half of Lincoln and 23, they’re planning on opening that up on Tuesday of next week.”

Abfalter reminds people this is only the first half of a two-year project. Traffic flow should return to something close to normal through the winter. Contractors will have both Highway 10 and Highway 23 back to four lanes by November, and work will resume in spring 2024.

The work has taxed many popular spots in the neighborhood, like Val’s and the Copper Kitchen. Abfalter says he will listen to suggestions and adjust the plan when possible. There are weekly meetings on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at Runnings, which have produced some tangible results.

“All those signs that you see for businesses, it’s coming from those meetings. It’s letting them know what we’re going to do and trying to help them out and get through this time.”

Detour signs began popping up along West St. Germain and 1st/2nd Street North, telling motorists how to get to east side businesses last month.
