(KNSI) – A St. Cloud area lawmaker is recognized by a local organization for his work at the Capitol.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota selected Senator Aric Putnam as its Legislator of the Year for his work in supporting local youth. He was presented the award by Board President Alex Schoephoerster and BBBS of Central Minnesota Executive Director Jackie Johnson at the agency’s monthly board meeting on August 22nd.
According to BBBS, during the legislative session, Putnam served as the Senate Author for a bill that doubled appropriations to the three BBBS agencies in Minnesota to $1 million over the next two years. He also invited BBBS members to testify in front of committees in St. Paul.
BBBS says it will use the additional funds to focus on college and career readiness for local youth. That includes the Dr. Potter Bigs on Campus Mentoring Initiative, assisting kids to explore career and post-secondary options and supporting kids between high school and age 21.
