(KNSI) – District 742’s Local Education & Activities Foundation is seeking donations for a popular program that ensures teachers are ready for school.
LEAF started taking donations this week for its Adopt-A-Classroom Program. Executive Director Bruce Hentgas was a guest of KNSI’s Bob Hughes and explained how you can help. “The Adopt-a-Classroom program allows individuals, groups, and organizations to adopt a classroom in District 742 for $250. That money then goes directly to provide classroom supplies.”
He says items must be purchased through the district’s office so the right supplies end up in the classroom. The donor receives an adoption certificate. Hentgas also talked about why they launched the program back in 2011. “We did a needs survey of teachers. It was just amazing to find out how much money teachers do spend in providing classroom supplies and things for their classrooms that most people don’t even think about. But it ranged from a few $100 to several $1,000.”
He said that realization made the organization start the program to provide a little extra boost. The campaign started this week, and they’ve already received $6,000. Last year, LEAF raised $44,000 to help 177 classrooms. Since the program began, they’ve raised $297,283. That’s enough to help 1,189 classrooms.
