(KNSI) – Tuesday is Military Appreciation Day at the Minnesota State Fair. U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Beth Dedic says the opening ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. This year’s theme is honoring Vietnam War veterans, marking 50 years since the end of the conflict. They will have a march that starts at about 11:20.
She says, “They’re going to be taking a roughly six-block leisurely stroll from the Leinie Lodge over to Dan Patch Park, where the Minnesota National Guard Adjutant General, Major General Shawn Manke, will be welcoming them with the crowd.”
Dedic says 50 vendors will be set up in Dan Patch Park. “These are various Minnesota-based support organizations that provide resources, events, and assistance to our military members that are both currently serving and our veteran community and their families.”
Events are planned until well into the afternoon, with concerts from the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division Band and the Red Devils. If you have proper documentation, tickets are reduced to $13 at the gate.
The Great Minnesota Get-Together has featured a Military Appreciation Day since 2010. Manke provided a statement about the importance of honoring Vietnam veterans. “There are more than 5.8 million Vietnam Veterans living in America and 97,000 living in Minnesota. This day is for all service members and their families who have given much to defend our state and nation.”
