(KNSI) — Aler Lisandro Gomez-Lucas faces two counts of criminal vehicular homicide after a fatal crash in Watab Township on August 11th.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Gomez-Lucas was driving a Nissan Pathfinder on Highway 10 near Little Rock Lake Road at about 3:30 a.m. when he lost control, and the SUV rolled. A passenger was ejected from the vehicle and then hit by a pickup truck while lying on the pavement. He died at the scene.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Benton County, another passenger in the Pathfinder said in an interview with a state trooper at the scene that the victim and Gomez-Lucas were both drunk. They also commented that the SUV was traveling fast at the time of the accident.
Gomez-Lucas took a breath test and registered a blood alcohol content level of .178, over twice the legal limit, according to court documents. A blood draw was also ordered. In addition to the two felonies, he has also been charged with misdemeanor driving while impaired in the fourth degree.
The pickup driver was not cited in the incident.
