(KNSI) – Only a month after the Sartell Community Grant Program was expanded to include daycares, the change is paying off.
On July 10th, the city council approved adding a childcare category to the list of eligible businesses able to apply to the program. On Monday night, the city approved up to $22,000 to help 814 Services LLC build a new facility with 170 spaces for kids and 30 workers. The money will be used to help cover the platting fees, including trunk storm, water, sanitary, and park dedication fees.
The 11,680-square-foot center will be built at 581 County Road 120. The area was annexed into the city during Monday’s meeting.
Projects were originally capped at $20,000 in grants. However, the council approved the slightly larger request, which it can do. City staff told the council the final estimates aren’t in yet, and the cost could be less but shouldn’t exceed that amount.
Sartell officials say the city needs more than 440 childcare spots to meet current demand.
