(KNSI) – The St. Cloud City Council unanimously approved a motion at Monday’s meeting to rezone the parcel at 1735 West St. Germain Street, so that R&L Repair can expand.

The business has been operating at the site since 1926 and was grandfathered in to its current fringe commercial district zoning, even though minor vehicle repair was not an approved use for the site. It will be built up from two service bays to four and the city granted a Planned Unit Development to accomodate the new plans.

The addition is approximately 1,232 square feet. R&L plans for it to look similar to the current building with its distinctive sloped red roof.

It was approved unanimously by the Planning Commission previously and the business will receive over $168,000 in Main Street Revitalization Grant funding from the city’s Economic Development Authority. The total cost is estimated at $560,859.
