(KNSI) – St. Cloud Councilwoman Karen Larson is hosting an East Side community development meeting Thursday evening.
It is set for 5:00-7:00 at the Iron Street Distillery on East St. Germain Street. In addition to Larson, Kevin Johnson from the Mayor’s Task Force, Community Development Director Matt Glaesman, Director of Downtown Planning and Development Tyler Bevier, and other neighborhood leaders will be on hand. The meeting is about how to best continue momentum on the East Side, which has seen several new businesses and organizations renovate historic buildings in the area in the past 12 to 18 months.
One potential hiccup is construction. It has altered traffic dramatically since spring, with more pain to come. The Minnesota Department of Transportation Highway 10/Highway 23 Interchange project is expected to last until November 2024.
Some area businesses have seen foot traffic drop by 25% since the work started. On Monday, the intersection of East Division Street and Highway 23 was closed temporarily. Last week, Highway 10 was closed at East St. Germain Street. Both shutdowns should last into September.
