(KNSI) — A Sauk Centre man is behind bars after allegedly admitting he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl at a park.
Court documents say on August 1st, the teen went to the Sauk Centre Police Department and told officers she had just been sexually assaulted. She said a man approached her while she was at the park, led her into the woods and raped her. She says he also told her he would “come back the following day, on August 2, 2023 to see her again.”
Officers went to the park at 1:00 p.m. on August 2nd and saw a man identified in the criminal complaint as 32-year-old Darwin Velasquez Laguna. He matched the description exactly as the girl described and appeared to be looking for someone. He was arrested, and in a sworn statement to investigators, he initially denied sexual conduct with her because she was only 15 and too young. “He gradually admitted to sexual contact” and ultimately did admit doing what she said.
Laguna is charged with third degree criminal sexual assault.
