(KNSI) – A man was killed after a Minnesota State Trooper fired shots during a traffic stop on a major interstate in Minneapolis.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says around 1:50 a.m. on Monday, a state trooper saw a Ford Fusion with no taillights traveling on northbound Interstate 94 near Lowry Avenue. The trooper pulled the driver over. While running his information, it was discovered that the driver was wanted in connection to a felony charge in Ramsey County.
Troopers tried to arrest the driver, but he allegedly refused to get out of the car. As they were trying to remove him from the vehicle, he started to drive away. A trooper fired their gun in response.
Life-saving measures were provided until emergency services arrived.
The three state troopers involved were placed on administrative leave, per State Patrol policy. Body cameras and squad cameras were activated during the incident.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has begun an investigation.
Minnesota State Patrol Colonel Matt Langer says the department is working to release the video after the family sees it.
The incident led to the interstate being shut down for nearly eight hours.
