(KNSI) — August marks the start of National Shooting Sports Month.

It encourages participation in shooting sports and emphasizes firearm safety. Jason Falconer is the owner of Tactical Advantage in Waite Park and tells KNSI News it’s a great time to introduce a person to shooting sports with the help of a range officer or get people back to the range if they’ve been away from it. “They’re there to help people with something if they’re not familiar with it, or if it’s been a little while since they’ve been to the range. It gives them a chance to ask questions, be competent and familiar, again with their equipment.”

Falconer says there are many reasons to get involved in shooting sports. “For some people, it’s a little adrenaline dump, shooting a firearm, punching holes in paper, having that, kind of gratification of hitting the target that you’re aiming at. For some people, it is stress relieving. They get to kind of be by themselves, they put their headphones on their ear protection, eye protection, get in their booth and do their thing.”

He says with summer winding down and snow soon to fly, now is a good time to sign up for the range.

Tactical Advantage offers an intro to handgun class with a focus on safety. During the month, they will also offer a league sampler and a free firearm rental for those wanting to try a new gun.
