(KNSI) – Someone is trying to rip off area residents by impersonating a Stearns County sheriff’s deputy over the phone.
The sheriff’s office says it received numerous calls on Thursday regarding a scam call attempting to fish for personal information. Officials say the caller claims to be Sergeant Vic Weiss with the department, and the scammer says it’s regarding an urgent legal matter.
Stearns County says these calls are not legitimate.
They advise anyone who gets a call like this to hang up and don’t provide any information.
