(KNSI) – Feathers will fly around Owatonna when the city hosts the 2023 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener.
The community was picked to hold the 11th annual event on October 13th and 14th. The weekend is a chance to showcase hunting, recreational, and community opportunities in Steele County. The area has more than 2,000 acres of state-managed public hunting land. Organizers say the area has a rich outdoor history with nearby Rice Lake State Park and the Straight River State Water Trail.
The Governor’s pheasant opener is intended to promote the intersection of tourism, outdoor recreation, and hunting to the general public. The event also highlights the benefits of Minnesota’s public and private grasslands and ties to the Governor’s conservation plans.
Steele County is in southern Minnesota, in the heart of farming country, and is an agricultural power in the state.
The event is being coordinated by Visit Owatonna, Explore Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
